Live Demo of Speeding up OpenFOAM Parameter Study by Factor 50

The famous OpenFOAM ‘Motorbike’ tutorial case is modified such that relative onset flow velocity is rotated in one-hundred, 3.6 degree steps (360° in total) around the motorbiker. Here, courtesy of ZHAW/ICP , we show a 20min live-demo of a work-flow that would have taken one-two full working days only six months ago. One-hundred individual turbulent steady-state OpenFOAM simulation cases are then created automatically, uploaded and run simultaneously in the cloud using KaleidoSim (Massive Simultaneous Cloud Computing).

Automate Paraview post-processing

Wondering how to automate Paraview post-processing using KaleidoSim cloud software ?

In this tutorial video, Prof. G. Boiger of ICP -Institute of Computational Physics , ZHAW -Zurich University of Applied Sciences, demonstrates how to activate Paraview’s ‘Python Trace’ function to record, modify, upload and run a Python script in the cloud. The script operated paraview in batch-mode and thus automatically visualizes simulation results and creates screenshots.

Kaleidoscope

The R&D cooperation between ZHAW/ICP and KaleidoSim has resulted in the release of the latest Kaleidoscope feature within KaleidoSim cloud platform, advancing the benefits of MSCC (Massive Simultaneous Cloud Computing). Extremely large parameter studies consisting of 100s of OpenFOAM simulation cases can now be generated, run and evaluated simultaneously in the cloud. This capability was designed to produce very large amounts of simulation data in extraordinarily short amounts of time.

KaleidoSim Feature tutorial

We at KaleidoSim are focused on making your experience as simple as possible. Use the Drag and drop feature update to see how we can run multiple simulations at once. Simply select all your simulations , drag & drop on our platform and click ‘Create case’.

Once completed, you can use our Katana Downloader to cut down your data into slices and view results selectively. Select your simulation files, go to “Download case files” and click on ”Common case files”.

Computational Parameter Study of 300 Cases with Kaleidoscope Feature

In this second tutorial video, Prof. G. Boiger of ICP -Institute of Computational Physics , ZHAW -Zurich University of Applied Sciences, demonstrates openFOAM’s Motorbike case in simpleFoam mode. A very large computational parameter study involving the RAS turbulence_model parameters ‘turbulent kinetic energy’ and ‘omega’, is conducted based on just one single base case. The base case is uploaded to the cloud and multiplied within seconds to yield not less than 300 individual OpenFOAM simulation cases. All cases are then computed simultaneously in the cloud (MSCC -Massive Simultaneous Cloud Computing) and the entire study is completed in only about 25min.
